Bitter Crop 3 -- Prints

Bitter Crop 3 is an original 24x36 inch mixed media piece created in 2024. The piece, one in a series of three, was created impulsively without any forethought. “I spent a year staring at them trying to understand their meaning and why did the Most High compel me to create them. One day, the Nina Simone rendition of ‘Strange Fruit’ materialized from my playlist and the pieces spoke to me. The pieces are a tribute to the souls of our ancestors, bodies hung, mutilated, burned, and erased from history. These haunting figures are their faces, their memory, their demand for remembrance. This piece is my charge as an artist: to tell the stories of those lost, and to honor those who simply existed in a world that deemed them unworthy. Dedicating these pieces to all of the lives unjustly taken for simply being and the families impacted by the inhumanity of the many.
