Fortified Queen - Prints

Fortified Queen is an original 24x36 inch mixed media piece on gloss paper created in 2022. Permanently housed in the C & K Art Gallery in Brooklyn, NY, the original piece incorporates acrylic paint, permanent and paint marker and represents the overwhelming thoughts and emotions on the minds of BIPOC people in positions of leadership. The piece celebrates the beauty of Blackness, incorporating African Adinkra symbols, Haitian coat of arms symbols, geometric shapes, crosshatching, solid black lines and impressions of graffiti to create a vibrant portrait expression. The piece overexaggerates the nose and lip qualities to bring recognition to the beauty of Black features which are often omitted, disregarded, and ridiculed. This bold and resonant piece will enhance any space as it honors our royal and divine roots and evokes the sense of power bestowed by the Most High.
