Pieces Of A Man1 -- Prints

Pieces of a Man 1 is an original 24x36 inch mixed media piece hand drawn and then enhanced digitally created in 2022. It is one in a series of six pieces based on Gil Scott Heron’s song “Pieces of a Man.” The works capture the emotional landscape of many Black men: the quiet weight of brokenness shaped by societal pressure, racism, unhealed trauma, and spiritual fatigue. Yet, within that heaviness is a powerful counterforce of resilience and hope. Through vibrant linework and layered textures, this work honors the strength of Black men who navigate despair and still embody brilliance, vibrance, style, tenacity, loyalty, love and fierce devotion. The blackened eyes symbolize our divinity, our connection to the unseen, to the ancestral, to the Most High. We are not broken, we are evolving! This piece will liven any space as a tribute to the complexity, beauty, and power of the Black male spirit.
