Beautiful Grace 1 -- Prints

Beautiful Grace1 is an original 11x17 inch mixed media piece on cardstock paper created in 2024. The original piece incorporates acrylic paint, permanent and paint marker. The headwrap highlights the significance of head coverings which have been worn throughout African history to symbolize grace, represent beauty and to provide spiritual protection to the wearer. Headwraps were also a symbol of resistance during the 1960s Black Panther Movement in the United States. The black silhouette highlights the beauty of our blackness which is often ridiculed and dismissed as unattractive. The expressive piece also celebrates the richness of Black cultures, incorporating African Adinkra symbols, geometric shapes, solid black lines and impressions of graffiti to create a vibrant exhibition. The colors, composition, and subject matter of this piece will evoke joyful emotions and create an atmosphere of cultural expression.
