Pieces of a Man

Pieces of a Man 6 is an original 18x24 inch mixed media collage piece on paper. It is one in a series of six pieces based on Gil Scott Heron’s song “Pieces of a Man.” The works capture the feelings of brokenness that many Black men experience for a variety of reasons including societal pressures, discrimination, illness, unhealed trauma and feelings of despair. It also captures the strength of Black men as we navigate these forlorn feelings to embrace our brilliance, vibrance, style, perseverance, tenacity, commitment, hope, beauty and power. The blackened eyes represent our divinity and connection to the spiritual world as we are created in the image of the Most High and wonderfully made.  This piece will elevate any space as a tribute to the complexity, beauty, and power of the Black male spirit. 19x25 inchesIncluding frame
